Using dental braces to achieve better teeth alignment

If you are considering teeth straightening, you may be told by a cosmetic or restorative dentist that you could benefit from orthodontic treatment such as dental braces. Braces are a popular way for patients of all ages in the Burbank, California, area to achieve a straighter smile and address issues such as bite and jaw alignment. Our team at Dr. Bostani’s Advanced Dental can assist you in finding out if you are a proper candidate for cosmetic braces and how they can be used to enhance or even transform your smile!

What are braces?

Braces, often referred to as orthodontia, are one way to address poor bite alignment, which can result in overcrowding, underbites, overbites, crossbites, or even gaps between the teeth.

What can orthodontic treatment improve?

With the use of bracket-and-wire braces, we can assist in correcting the following tooth alignment concerns:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Bite issues (crossbite, open bite, underbite, overbite)

What teeth straightening options are available with Dr. Payam Bostani?

At Dr. Bostani’s Advanced Dental in Burbank, California, we see patients every day who would smile more confidently if only they had straight teeth; that’s why we offer a variety of braces options. Having straight teeth is about more than an esthetically pleasing smile. Straight teeth are much easier to brush and floss, reducing the risk of tooth decay and improving oral health.

Below, we’ll explain two types of dental braces we offer and how they can benefit your smile.

  • Traditional braces. Traditional braces are a series of metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands that have been used for decades to straighten teeth. The concept of conventional braces is straightforward. The continuous pressure of the braces on the teeth slowly moves them into their proper positions. The brackets (small metal squares) are bonded directly onto the front of the teeth. Arch wires are attached to the brackets and do most of the work, guiding the movement of the teeth. Rubber bands can be attached to the brackets in various positions to help move the teeth. Once the brackets and wires are in place, you will return to the office approximately every four to six weeks for the wires to be tightened. At Dr. Bostani’s Advanced Dental, he is pleased to offer metal and ceramic braces as options for patients to choose from, especially if they are seeking a less noticeable solution than traditional metal
  • Invisalign orthodontics. Invisalign is an alternative treatment to traditional braces. Invisalign works through a series of clear aligner trays. The trays are custom designed for the unique movement of your teeth. Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn for 20-22 hours each day and removed only for eating and oral hygiene. Around every two weeks, you will swap the trays for a new one. Invisalign can be used on adults and teens as a comfortable, discreet way to straighten teeth

How long will my orthodontic treatment take?

Every patient is different, as is their smile. We consider any unique factors impacting your smile and your ability to align the teeth properly. Most of our patients will find treatment to take approximately a year or so, depending on the severity of their misalignment.
