Not only is playing sports great exercise, but it can teach self-esteem, patience, and team spirit and working together. What’s not great is that it can damage your mouth and teeth if you don’t use some type of protection. Read today’s blog about the importance of mouth guards.
Mouth guards are a customized appliance that you wear over your teeth any time you play a sport, especially contact sports such as, hockey, soccer, football, basketball, rugby, etc. A mouth guard protects you from blows to the face and head that can occur with sports. If you contact our dental team at Dr. Bostani’s Advanced Dental, we can make an appointment for Dr. Payam Bostani, to fit you with the perfect sport’s mouth guard in Burbank, California.
There are three types of mouth guards from which you can choose that are comfortable, tear-resistant, and resilient. The three types of mouth guards we offer are:
– Boil and bite mouth guards, which you can find at a store, and come in a pre-formed shape; you then alter it by boiling in water, then biting into the warmed plastic to custom-fit your mouth.
– Custom-made mouth guards – Your dentist is able to take impressions and provide the most comfortable fit, coupled with the best protection.
– Stock mouth guards – Preformed and read to wear, these less expensive mouth guards are not usually recommended, because they don’t fit very well, and can be bulky. They can also make breathing and talking difficult.
