“Tell me more about veneers?” We get asked this all the time. We’ve created a veneers FAQs section to address some common queries about dental veneers. If you’re considering veneers to enhance your smile, these answers will provide valuable insights before you take the plunge.
Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells made from materials like composite or porcelain resin. They are custom-designed to fit over the anterior surface of your teeth to conceal gaps, chips, stains, and other imperfections. Our office uses porcelain veneers to change the size, color, shape, and texture of your front-facing teeth to enhance your smile.
Porcelain veneers require about two to three appointments, with much of the magic happening in the first appointment. After examining your teeth, we numb your tooth to minimize discomfort during tooth preparation. Then, we shave a small amount of the enamel to create space for the veneer. Next, we take impressions of your teeth to be used by our master ceramists to fabricate your bespoke veneers.
You’ll wear temporary veneers over the next few days to protect your prepped teeth. During your second appointment, we’ll replace your temporary veneers with permanent ones. Once we establish your veneers perfectly complement your smile, we use dental cement to secure them to your teeth.
This patient had disproportionately larger front teeth and gaps along all 6 upper front teeth. Veneers help to reshape teeth to the correct proportions as well as help close spaces. A total of 8 veneers were done on the uppers to get the perfect smile. He later said we “Changed his life!!”
This patient wanted to straighten his front teeth and close the small open bite that he had. A set of 6 veneers were done for the front teeth to straighten and close the front open bite. Group function/guidance was kept in this case. The results were incredible and imperceivable from natural teeth.
This patient case was a combination of Orthodontics, Implants, and finally Veneers and Implant crowns. Orthodontics was used to create the natural space of two missing front teeth. Two implants were placed at the time orthodontics finished. And finally, porcelain restorations (veneers and crowns) were done to complete the smile. The patient said “This was the smile he always dreamed of”
In this case, my patient knew his smile needed improvement. As he described it, his teeth left a gap when he smiled. Overall, his teeth were somewhat short, and they tilted inward. With minimal preparations, I added veneers that lengthened his front 8 teeth to the correct height/width and proclined them to remove the ‘inward’ look.
Veneer placement isn’t painful. We’ll numb your gums before any procedure, ensuring you’re comfortable. After the procedure, you may experience some sensitivity, but this will wane within a few days.
Porcelain veneers have countless benefits. One significant benefit of porcelain veneers is their natural look. Porcelain veneers mimic your natural enamel, generating stunning yet life-like results.
Other benefits of porcelain veneers include:
On average, porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years, but we’ve seen patients with veneers that last well over these years. Porcelain veneers offer a natural and durable solution for various cosmetic dental concerns.
Veneers don’t need extensive maintenance, but it’s crucial to maintain good oral hygiene to keep them looking their best. Diligent brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are all you need to keep your veneers in tip-top condition. Furthermore, avoid using your teeth as tools to bite on hard objects or open packages.
