The American Dental Association recommends having a routine dental checkup and cleaning performed every six months. This will remove all traces of hardened tartar and plaque while also detecting oral health problems. At the end of the checkup, Dr. Payam Bostani will examine your mouth for early signs of oral or pharyngeal cancer.
The ADA estimates that 1 in 92 adults will develop some form of oral or pharyngeal cancer in their lifetime. While it has a greater tendency to afflict people over the age of 60 other risk factors can increase your chances of early development. This could include a family history of oral and pharyngeal cancer, tobacco use, and frequent alcohol consumption.
Let Dr. Payam Bostani know about any potential oral cancer symptoms or concerns you might have. This might include a persistent pain in your mouth, swelling, or a lump in your cheek. Pharyngeal cancer symptoms could also include a persistent sore throat or a feeling like something is stuck in the back of your mouth.
If you live in the Burbank, California area and you’re concerned about oral or pharyngeal cancer, you should call (818) 918-5533 to schedule a checkup and screening at Dr. Bostani’s Advanced Dental.
